Lima OO Class 31, 31130 “Calder Hall Power Station” / Full Service
This class 31 Locomotive was posted to us by the customer and described has just buzzing and not moving.
Body Removed
On first inspection the lead weight is just rolling around inside and the missing coupling was stuck to the motor magnet.
First test on the test track it really did not want to go anywhere at all, all noise and no action!
So strip, clean, oil and grease the motor and moving parts and checked wire connections and brushes.
The brushes were fine and looked liked they had been replaced before.
Second test on the test track, although now movement, still very sluggish and erratic behaviour.
Re-Magnetise
So motor magnet out and into the re-magnetiser and can feel an instant improvement from a screwdriver test on the magnet before and after.
Fixed the lead weight in with black tack
Reassembled everything apart from the body and back onto the test track / rolling road and bingo, now runs better than my own test loco.
