About Us

Hi, my name is Andrew and I own the Model Railway Workshop. I have been a model railway enthusiast (Model Railway Engineer) for over 40 years.

Some of my earliest memories are train spotting with my late father, who used to take me to London Kings Cross and he would chat to the train drivers. I was only 5 years old at the time, but hooked for life and soon discovered you can build your own train layouts and got my first (very basic) model railway up and running at the age of 8 on a board in my bedroom. I built my first large model railway in the attic when I was in my mid teens.

With over 40 years experience, I have a great knowledge of model railways and model railway electrics. I have a professional background in engineering and electronics and have been described as an artist with a soldering iron, ha ha. I will be developing our very own electrical solutions and parts for your layouts. We have a 3D Printer and a state of the art Lathe as well as many over useful design and creative tools that you would expect from a fully equipped workshop.

Its now later in life I have decided to start Model Railway Workshop which is a family run business located in Cheltenham. We offer a range of model railway services, including Loco servicing, DDC conversions, motor repairs and weathering etc.

My own Model Railway Collection is based on the Era 7 Diesels Locomotives with the yellow faces and matt blue bodies, which takes me back to my childhood and my dear father. They are all DCC with directional lighting and fine detailing with a bit of Weathering for good measure.  My favourite Loco’s are Class 33, Class 55 & DMU’s, but I like all of the diesels from Era 7, and yes I am collecting them. I normally buy an old Lima or Hornby and rebuild and upgrade it. I will be featuring a few on this website in the not to distant future.

Thanks for reading
Andrew
