DCC Conversions

DCC stands for Digital Command and Control and has revolutionised the control of trains on a layout.

DCC offers much more flexibility, control, and realism for model train enthusiasts.

DCC offers the following features:

  • Enhanced low-speed running.
  • Realistic operation, DCC decoders can be programmed to simulate realistic locomotive behaviour like slow starts, stops, and inertia coasting.
  • Multiple trains can share the same track section each being controlled independently in any direction and speed.
  • Onboard lighting effects all Individually controlled by the DCC controller – DCC lights also remain consistently bright even when the train is stationary.
  • Onboard sound effects all Individually controlled by the DCC controller.
  • Simplified Wiring – DCC typically uses only two wires for the entire layout.
  • Easier Layout Expansion – Adding new locomotives or modifying your layout is much simpler with DCC.

There are a few types of DCC decoders

  • Locomotive Decoders.
  • Sound Decoders.
  • Accessory Decoders – Control points, signals and lighting accessories etc.

MRW offer a customised DCC conversion service, where you can choose your preferred brand of decoder or rely on our recommendation for a high-quality decoder suitable for your needs.
